A Win at Last
It took eleven matches, but we have finally won a match this season! As you may have read in my previous posts (If You Can’t be Good, Be Lucky and Half-Term Report) our sojourn into the top flight of our league hadn’t exactly been laden with success, however, our performances in the last month had been pointing towards better times to come and those better times arrived last night.
It may have taken eleven matches to win our first top flight match, but it was sweet, coming as it did against our same pub rivals, The Shoulder of Mutton D. The match started way better than we could have imagined, winning the Gallon and all three pairs, we found ourselves 4-0 up before we knew it – it felt like a long time since that has happened.
The singles of the match ended 3-3, so the final result was 7-3 to us and a much closer bottom of the league than before with the Green Man (another team towards the bottom of the section) losing 10-0. When the league tables are updated with the official results, the bottom four will look like this…
39 – Shoulder of Mutton D
38 – Green Man
38 – Shoulder of Mutton E
18 – St Ives C
On a personal note, I’m pleased with the way I played last night, and similar to the team as a whole I’ve played well for the last four or five matches – winning my singles with a two dart 90 finish helps. Actually, I’ve won four-in-a-row now, following losing my first four games of the season while finding my feet.
The reality is that we now have a very tricky run of matches, starting with top-of-the-table West Moors the first match back after Christmas. Whether we can save ourselves or not we will see, but for now, it’s a winning Christmas 🙂
