Darts on ITV: World Series of Darts

So darts is back on ITV4 (quite a lot) this August in the form of the World Series of Darts. The next three events will be held on each of the last three weekends in August from Perth, Sydney and Aukland.

The Story so Far…

The first two events (in Dubai and Japan) received delayed coverage on ITV – and both were interesting in their own ways.

The Dubai Darts Masters was held in an open air tennis arena and saw some ‘interesting’ darts thrown as the breeze in the stadium disrupted the usually unerring accuracy of the best PDC players. Michael van Gerwen won the tournament, defeating Phil Taylor in the final. Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis were the two losing finalists.

The World Series then moved onto Japan, where eight Japanese qualifiers were thrown into the mix with the same eight PDC big-guns who competed in Dubai. Predictably, none of the eight Japanese players progressed past the first round, after each of them was given the ‘opportunity’ to take on one of the higher-profile players. The Power was in the final once again, this time beating his opponent, an unlucky Peter Wright.

World Series Ranking Points have been awarded at each of the first two events (as they will be in the remaining three). When we asked the PDC Boss, Barry Hearn, what the points were for, he explained they would be used to seed the players at the World Series Finals night in Glasgow this November.
